1. Introductions, apologies and substitutions
1.1 Apologies were received from Russell George. There were no substitutions.
2. Inquiry into energy policy and planning in Wales - Evidence on hydro power
2.1 The witnesses responded to questions from members of the Committee on hydro power as part of the inquiry into energy policy and planning in Wales.
2.2 Mr Rees and Mr Campbell-Lendrum agreed to provide written information to the Committee on:
· The practice of having to receive consent for licencing from the Environment Agency before a planning application is validated, including a comparison between their experience of the process followed by Snowdonia National Park and the process followed by neighbouring local authorities.
· Examples of best practice within the hydro industry elsewhere in the UK.
· The different standards for flow splitting in Wales compared to Scotland and England.
· The comparative profitability of a similar scheme located in Wales compared to Scotland.
2.4 The Committee agreed to write to the Environment Agency to seek clarity on the flow splitting policy in Wales and associated issues.
